This image demonstrates that America led the way in science and technology, as the 'Space Race' was won by America. There is a huge sense of national pride in this image as the American flag was placed on the moon, consequently allowing the American people to come together as a comunity and feel proud of their country. It also proves that the american dream is possible, as Neil Armstrong was able to accomplish his dreams and provide hope for American citizens.
The al-Qaeda terrorist attacks on the twin towers made America vulnerable. Tens of thousands of innocent people were killed and the spectacular sky scrapers of New York were destroyed. The attack shows that a minority of extremists see America as an enemy because of differences in religion and culture that are unlikely to change. In consequence America invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, and although Osama Bin Laden has been killed, the war is ongoing and the threat of future attacks to America is possible. The grief 9/11 caused can still be seen today as many around the world reflected on the tenth anniversary.
